Federal Skilled Workers

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is a crucial part of Canada’s Express Entry system, offering skilled workers a pathway to permanent residency in Canada.
Launched in January 2015 by IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada), the Express Entry online point-based immigration process has been instrumental in providing opportunities for skilled migration to Canada. To be eligible for permanent residence through the FSWP in 2019, applicants must score a minimum of 67 points based on criteria such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and other factors.

If you meet the eligibility requirements, you are eligible to apply for this visa:

(1)Within the past decade, you must have worked full-time in your occupation for at least one year using skills 0, A, and B.

  • (a)Your profession must be on the list recognised by Canada Immigration and Citizenship based on labour market conditions, or
  • (b)You must have a pre-arranged job offer in the country or
Have applied for and been accepted into a Ph.D. program in Canada.

(2)Achieve a minimum English proficiency score of 7 on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB).

(3)You can use the Test devaluation of French to obtain a higher score (French exam test).

(4)Submit a Canadian diploma, bachelor’s degree, professional certification, or international certificate for evaluation by a company recognised by Canadian Customs and Citizenship, such as Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), to demonstrate Canadian credentials.

(5)Must not have any criminal convictions. Level A expertise (professional jobs).
Level B expertise (technical occupations and skilled trades). Type O skill expertise (management occupations).

The Canadian government introduced the Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) process in May 2013, which compares foreign credentials to Canadian ones to determine their comparability for federal skilled worker visas.

All primary applicants who completed their education outside of Canada must undergo an Educational Credential Assessment before submitting the final travel visa application (ECA).

Four entities authorised by the Canadian government to conduct educational credential assessments (ECA) are:

  • Canadian company International Credential Evaluation Service.
  • Toronto School of Continuing Studies.
  • Canadian Medical Board (professional body).
  • Programmes for global education.
